Are you liberal, left-leaning, a Democrat, etc. - just lurking this page to see what people around here talk about? Welcome friend. Thanks for your time :) Here is why you, personally, should protect your 2nd amendment rights...

Fellow pro-gunners, please upvote this so it can rise to the top. I think that the anti-gun people need to see it. ----------- A lot of people I know who are pro gun control have never actually viewed the text of the 2nd Amendment. Here it is: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." A militia is defined as: n. An army composed of ordinary citizens rather than professional soldiers. n. A military force that is not part of a regular army and is subject to call for service in an emergency. n. The whole body of physically fit civilians eligible by law for military service. ------------ To the left/"liberal"/Democratic people who are exuberant that the Biden administration is trying to remove "weapons of war" from the streets. We love you. And we're glad that you're a real human with real feelings. You watch the news and see when unreasonable people take justice into their own hands and commit terrible crimes with weapons, and then you come away with the strong opinion that since things like that happen, "weapons of war" shouldn't be available to the public. I get it. This is my attempt to appeal to your individuality to help you understand why we all think it is so important that you have the freedom to arm yourself (not me, or anybody else - you, yourself). Hopefully after reading this, you will go out and buy a cheap gun if you don't already have one. Disclaimer: Please don't misunderstand me - the crimes committed by the unstable are really horrible, and I do not make excuses for them. Do you remember how scared you were under the Trump administration? What were you worried about? I've lurked on a lot of left-leaning subreddits, and I think I have it narrowed down to this: It is terrifying to look at US history for the past hundred years or so and imagine that a bunch of white supremacists, or Christians, or conservatives - or whoever - could use the government to structurally and systemically oppress, repress, punish, torture, and subjugate you just for being yourself. It scared you to death to imagine that a super powerful demagogue could potentially seize control of the government and circumvent objective journalism to conspire behind closed doors with his "buddies" and absolutely ruin your life due to the qualities that you can't (and wouldn't want to) change. This may surprise you, but most pro-gun people have been afraid of that for centuries, and history is filled to the brim with examples of leaders who did exactly that. Let me use an easy example. Hitler. Let's assume that you are LGBTQ+, Black, Asian, Jewish, or anything else that. And let's imagine that Trump really was Hitler, and that the US really did turn into Nazi Germany. What would prevent an armed, powerful, national government from being able to recruit nationalists to round you up for being and isolate you into ghettos, kill you, castrate you, etc.? I think you know where I'm going with this. If you are armed to the teeth, body armor and all, and so are all of your fellow liberty-lovers, then you can band together with hundreds of thousands of people who believe you have the right to be treated equally, and you can say - "NO." If the government decided to round up people who are and ruin your lives, then hundreds thousands of people, armed with "weapons of war", have the freedom to say - "NO. This is not constitutional and you cannot take my right to life, liberty, and happiness based on racism, bigotry, or hate." One of my good friends is a Democratic Socialist who has almost no common political ground with most gun owners I know, but he does recognize that any government that has "all" of the power is, or will soon be, a fascist government. It does not matter who is "in control" of it. If the government cannot be held accountable, and the people as a collective mass no longer have the right to say "NO", then fascism is sure to follow. If you're LGBTQ+, Black, Mexican, Asian, Spanish, White, Christian, Muslim, or anything else - most people in this subreddit want to ensure that the government never oppresses you for being that way. And that's why the 2nd Amendment is so important. It's the people's way of telling our governments and every other government that if they try to hurt people for just being themselves, even if they would win the conflict, it would be extremely costly and probably not worth the effort. When citizens are heavily armed, there will not be a conflict because our politicians will not see it as being worth the possibility of conflict. It's "Mutually Assured Destruction" at its finest. When the government takes steps to take away your ability to tell them NO, they are laying the foundation for some terrible, terrible person - years or decades in the future - to oppress people like you or me when and if it is politically or economically expedient. A lot of people I know who are pro gun control have never actually viewed the text of the 2nd Amendment. Here it is:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

A militia is defined as:

  • n. An army composed of ordinary citizens rather than professional soldiers.
  • n. A military force that is not part of a regular army and is subject to call for service in an emergency.
  • n. The whole body of physically fit civilians eligible by law for military service.

Just think about some of the terrible things that have happened within the last couple hundred years.

Sure, Biden may be a nice guy who is generally doing the right thing. But what if somebody terrible gets in office and decides to ruin your life?
