Do leek greens belong in soup?

I made a soup of chard, leeks (whites and greens), oyster mushrooms, and chicken broth modeled off of this recipe, but something was just unsatisfactory, almost inedible about it. I need your help figuring out what went wrong. The broth was amazing, perfectly seasoned and with a bit of lemon juice, but I found myself unable to finish eating the greens. I added the leek greens (not part of the original recipe) because I didn’t want to throw them out and I saw recipes on Google for braised leek greens. So why not? Maybe it was the texture that was off putting (dare I say slimy?) or maybe the sweetness, but I couldn’t eat very much without feeling almost sick. My best guess is that I over cooked the chard and leek whites (25 mins on simmer) to get the leek greens softer, and that leek greens just don’t belong in soup. But does anyone else have the same issues with leeks? Should I have changed the cook time? Or should I have omitted the greens entirely? Do I not like leeks? I’m pretty disappointed in this soup because it felt dead simple and hard to mess up, so I want to know if I’m missing something obvious. Thanks! submitted by /u/bitthebyte [link] [comments]
