Fixing split mascarpone? Help!

So I'm making tiramisu using this recipe https://www.inspiredtaste.net/23599/tiramisu-recipe/ When I took the egg yolk, sugar, marsala mix off the double boiler I started to mix in the mascarpone with a hand mixer, as per recipe directions. It started to separate, so I put it back on the double boiler till creamy, let it sit at room temp, then let it sit in the fridge for 10 min. It had firmed up nicely.
