Should I boil canned snails before making escargot?

I have good quality canned snails to make escargot. The recipe I used to use from a French guy on youtube required you to boil the snails before combining the snails with the butter mixture and cooking them. I've been looking at other recipes from this side of the Atlantic and none of them say to boil the canned snails. Is it necessary?
