Smashed potatoes easily broke apart?

I made smashed potatoes and salmon tonight. After boiling my yukon gold (potatoes ranged from 1-2 inches in diameter) I smashed my potatoes. The smaller potatoes smashed and roughly held their shape when I flipped them to coat them in oil. When the larger potatoes were smashed, they simply broke apart and could not hold their shape at all when smashed. So I guess my question is should I boil the potatoes shorter or longer for a more desirable texture when smashed? submitted by /u/Jayddubz [link] [comments]
