What's a sequel you really shouldn't play if you haven't played the first/previous game?

Game sequels, unlike movie sequels, usually improve greatly on the games that came before them and are often standalone experiences designed to bring in a new audience; you can easily play Assassin's Creed 2 without playing AC1 for example. I talked about this with my partner and we could only come up with three good examples (I'll try to spoil them as little as possible): Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. The story is honestly hard to follow if you didn't play the first ZE, and it even plays better for a 999 vet. And of course, The Last of Us Part 2. For character death reasons. And Telltale's Walking Dead series really should be played in order. What are your examples? submitted by /u/GLObottt [link] [comments]
